Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel slammed the mainstream media for what she said was a double standard in how they’re treating President Donald Trump and his predecessors in the Oval Office.
“#DoubleStandard”
McDaniel posted a video of former President Barack Obama addressing illegal immigration and sounding a lot like President Trump in the current debate about
the migrant caravan from Honduras. “The mainstream media is demonizing [President Trump] for talking tough on the caravan,” McDaniel tweeted, “but where was their criticism of Barack Obama when he said this?”
She added a hashtag for “Double Standard.”
In the video from a
media conference in 2005, then-Senator Obama criticized illegal aliens “pouring” into the United States.
“We are a generous and welcoming people here in the United States,” said Obama in the video, “but those who enter the country illegally and those who employ them disrespect the rule of law and they are showing disregard for those following the law.”
“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the U.S., undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, lawfully to become immigrants in this country” he concluded.
