SANFORD, Fla. —The mayor of Sanford was carjacked while he was standing outside of a home early Saturday morning, police said.
Mayor Jeff Triplett was standing in front of a home on Chapman Avenue in Sanford about 2:15 a.m. when three men approached him. Two of the men pointed a gun at him and stole his car keys.
Additionally, the robbers stole Triplett’s wallet before they drove off in his Mercedes, police said.
Triplett gave a detailed description of the robbers to police and Jermine Jacques Horne, 18, and a 17-year-old were arrested a short time later. The third person remains at large, police said.
“Being a victim of a crime is unnerving, yet it was reassuring to witness both speed and diligence from the Sanford Police Department. It is disheartening when this type of crime takes place in the City of Sanford,” Triplett said.
