I've posted before, as a sad Anglophile and as someone who sees the future of the U.S. in the present state of England, on the demise of England where the basic right of defending yourself is no longer permitted and every PC, multiculti nonsense is enshrined. Now, apparently, the Englishman's home is no longer his castle either.
A family today told how they have been locked out of their home after squatters moved in over Christmas.
Illustrator Julian Mosedale, 45, and his catalogue manager wife Samantha, 41, returned from their festive break to find squatters had taken possession of the three-bedroom property.
The couple had moved out of the £285,000 property in Tottenham in July 2007 while extensive structural and renovation work was completed.
They rented a house near Alexandra Palace and hoped to move back to their “dream home” this March.
The couple regularly visited the house in Tottenham to project manage the work but spent Christmas visiting family in Essex.
On 3 January they found it occupied by a large family, who had changed the locks and brought in furniture.
The couple — who have three children, Jake, 10, Toby, eight, and five-year-old Finn — are going to court in an attempt to evict the squatters but say that legal costs along with their rent and mortgage could leave them homeless within weeks.
Mrs Mosedale said: “When we came back after Christmas, we discovered that a gang of Romanian gypsies had taken over the house.
"At the moment there are at least four women, four children and one man living in our home, but neighbours said they have seen many more people going in and out.
“The house had builders in it while the renovations were being done. It was only in the last couple of months that it was left completely empty.
“Our lawyers don't know how long it will take us to get them out and the stress is really getting to the whole family. The kids are upset at the idea that other children are playing with their toys in the garden.
"Our son Jake is old enough to understand what is going on and he is finding it difficult to sleep. All the children are incredibly unsettled.”
She added: “We were in the process of creating our dream home and it has been ruined. We spent so much money on the property and these people have definitely done damage.
"We calculated that we could only afford to rent our present home and pay the mortgage on the Tottenham house until March. If we can't get these squatters out by them, we could be homeless.”
The family called police on 3 January but claim the squatters showed officers a fake tenancy agreement. Police have now told them it is a civil matter.
The squatters today claimed they had a legal tenancy. One woman, who would not give her name and spoke little English, said: “We have a tenancy agreement and are paying £300 a week to a landlord to live there legally.”
However, she was unable to provide a name or contact details for the landlord who she described only as a “black man”.
Mrs Mosedale said: “They have changed the locks, damaged our property and are living there in spite of the fact there is not a kitchen, no central heating or even hot water.
“We have worked hard, are law-abiding citizens, yet get treated like criminals when our home is stolen. This whole thing is making me feel constantly sick. All we want to do is get on with our lives.”
