“Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, ‘Slow down, stop everything, let’s start over,’ ” Reid said in a floor speech on Monday.
Reid said Republicans were displaying the same mindset as those who defended slavery.“If you think you’ve heard these same excuses before, you’re right,” Reid said.
He continued: “When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, ‘Slow down, it’s too early, things aren’t bad enough.’ ”

Reid Equates Nationalizing Healthcare with Freeing the Slaves
The ironic thing is that given the amount taxes will have to go up, the healthcare plan will be increasing slavery in this country as Tax Freedom Day will be pushed further and further back. Anyway here are his comments:

Here is the entire quote. BTW, wasn't it the Southern Democrats that did not want to end slavery?? He was NOT comparing Healthcare to slavery.
