Jameek Lowery, who live-streamed himself on Facebook while in the precinct on Saturday, had a severe case of spinal meningitis, according to multiple reports.
Law enforcement sources told WABC that Lowery had the infection for “some time” while WPIX reported that cops were “planning a meeting with Lowery’s bereaved family to give them the news.”
Lowery’s family could not immediately be reached for comment.
The 27-year-old man was sweating profusely in the video and claimed he was on ecstasy.
Although he appeared uninjured, Lowery was taken to the hospital where he was placed on life support. He died two days later.
His death has set off protests in the city as family and friends have sought answers about how the man died.
An official cause of death has not been released.

Spinal meningitis is an infection of the fluid and membranes around the brain and spinal cord. Once infection starts, it can spread rapidly through the body.
Without treatment it can cause brain damage in a matter of hours and can be fatal within 24 hours.
