California bill would require large retailers to have a gender neutral display area for toys, childcare products

The state of California could eventually start requiring large retail department stores to have a gender neutral display section that contains some of the toys and childcare items available for purchase.

The bill would force retailers with a certain number of employees to have a gender neutral area to display "a reasonable selection" of such products "regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys."The legislation passed the California Senate Wednesday, kicking it back to the state Assembly for a procedural vote prior to when it can then go to Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to the Associated Press. 

Starting in 2024 non-compliant stores can face a $250 civil penalty for a first infraction and $500 for a subsequent violation. 

According to the AP, Democratic Assemblyman Evan Low said the proposal was inspired by a 10-year-old child named Britten whose mom works in his legislative office."Britten asked her mom while shopping why certain things in a store were 'off limits' to her because she was a girl, but would be fine if she was a boy," Low said, according to the outlet. "Thankfully, my colleagues recognized the pure intentions of this bill and the need to let kids be kids." 

GOP State Sen. Melissa Melendez voted to oppose the legislation, noting that she would "recommend we let parents be parents," according to the outlet. "I don't think parents need the government to step in and tell them how they should shop for their children," she said.

Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener noted that he and Low are "childless gay men" but defended their right to hold views regarding kids and families, according to the AP."We know what it was like to grow up not conforming to the way that your gender is supposed to be," he said, noting: "This is about making safe spaces for all children in today's society and not pushing, sometimes forcing children to conform." 

While the AP said the bill would not apply to clothes, it appears that another version of the bill last year did apply to clothing. 

"I was inspired to introduce this bill after 8-year-old Britten asked, 'Why should a store tell me what a girl's shirt or toy is?'" Assemblymember Evan Low said, according to a 2020 press release about that prior version of the legislation. "Her bill will help children express themselves freely and without bias. We need to let kids be kids."

SEPTEMBER 01, 2021A California high school teacher will be terminated from his job after the undercover group Project Veritas released a video featuring the man.

In the video, Inderkum High School teacher Gabriel Gipe said that he has "180 days" in which to "turn them into revolutionaries." Project Veritas indicated that Gipe was referring to students. 

Among some of the many other comments Gipe made in the video, he also noted that he has an Antifa flag on his classroom wall.

Ex-con charged in fatal shooting of 15-year-old boy

An ex-con was charged this week with gunning down a 15-year-old student athlete in East Harlem on Memorial Day, police said. 

Shane Lloyd, 33 — who is locked up at Rikers in connection to a September 2020 hit-and-run — was linked to the May 31 slaying of Amir James at Lexington Avenue and East 123rd Street, authorities said. 

James, a student at Thurgood Marshall Academy, was out to pick up fried chicken with his sister and another relative around 10:30 p.m. when he was shot in the chest by the lone gunman, authorities said. 

The teen was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

It was unclear whether he was targeted or an innocent bystander. Another man, 30, was also shot in the knee.

Lloyd was busted on July 22 for allegedly tossing a firearm out of his car after striking another car and driving off on Sept. 13, 2020, cops said. 

Shane Lloyd was linked to the May 31 slaying of Amir James in East Harlem.

At the time of that alleged crime, Lloyd — who also uses the first name Antonio — was on post-release supervision in connection to a prior weapons possession conviction, state corrections records show. 

Lloyd was released from prison in August 2019 after serving a three-year sentence for the weapons charge, according to the records. 

Amir’s grandmother Rosemary West previously described him as a top student and a gifted athlete — particularly in football, basketball and kickball.

“Always called on him to get on the team because he was so good,” she said.

At the time of the shooting, Shane Lloyd was on post-release supervision in connection to a prior weapons possession conviction.

Amir also loved to cook, she said.

“I taught him how to cook,” West said, adding that they liked to make breakfast, peas and rice, potato salad and barbecue chicken together.

“He would have been a great person,” West said the day after the slaying. “He was just starting out.”

“There were so many things he wanted to do.”

Amir James was a student at Thurgood Marshall Academy and loved to cook, according to his grandmother.

President Biden pressured Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to create the “perception” that the Taliban weren’t winning, “whether it’s true or not,” in a phone call just three weeks before the insurgents seized control of the country, a bombshell leaked transcript shows.

Biden and Ghani spoke for roughly 14 minutes on July 23 in what would be their final call before the Taliban overran the government and Afghanistan descended into bloody chaos amid the botched US withdrawal, according to a transcript and audio obtained by Reuters. 

Much of the call was focused on what Biden referred to as the Afghan government’s “perception” issue. 

“I need not tell you the perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban,” Biden said. 

“And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture.”

Much of the call between the two was focused on what Biden referred to as the Afghan government’s “perception” issue.

At the time, the Taliban had already seized about half of the country’s district centers and was only weeks away from taking Kabul on Aug. 15. 

Biden told Ghani that Afghanistan’s prominent political figures — including former Afghan President Hamid Karzai — should give a joint press conference that backed a new military strategy on how to defeat the Taliban, saying: “That will change perception, and that will change an awful lot, I think.”

“I’m not a military guy, so I’m not telling you what that plan should precisely look like, you’re going to get not only more help, but you’re going to get a perception that is going to change in terms of how , um … our allies and folks here in the States and other places think you’re doing,” Biden said. 

Biden’s tone throughout the call suggested he didn’t think the Taliban would be in control just weeks later.

Biden also heaped praise on Afghan security forces — which were trained and funded by the US before dissolving in a matter of weeks amid the US withdrawal — and offered aid if Ghani could publicly put out a plan that showed he could control the spiraling situation.

“You clearly have the best military,” Biden said. “You have 300,000 well-armed forces versus 70, 80,000 and they’re clearly capable of fighting well.

“We will continue to provide close air support, if we know what the plan is … And all the way through the end of August, and who knows what after that.

“In addition to that, we are going to continue to fight hard, diplomatically, politically, economically, to make sure your government not only survives, but is sustained and grows because it is clearly in the interest of the people of Afghanistan that you succeed and you lead.”

Biden’s tone throughout the call suggests he did not expect the collapse of the Afghan government just three weeks later.

Ghani fled as the Taliban seized control of Kabul on Aug. 15. 

Since then, tens of thousands have fled the country, and 13 US service members and almost 200 Afghans were killed in a suicide bombing at Kabul airport during the final days of Biden’s chaotic mass evacuations that ended Monday.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment on Biden’s call with Ghani. 

In a readout of Biden and Ghani’s call, the White House only said at the time that the two leaders “discussed the situation in Afghanistan and reaffirmed their commitment to an enduring bilateral partnership.” 

Ghani fled as the Taliban seized control of Kabul on Aug. 15.

Is Texas Shooting The Start Of A Biden-Fueled Terrorism Surge?

cold-blooded murder in a city northeast of Dallas over the weekend hasn’t exactly made national news – yet. But it could be the first in a new wave of terrorist attacks spawned by President Joe Biden’s disastrous retreat from Afghanistan.

On Sunday, the day before the last U.S. military plane departed the Kabul airport, a gunman shot and killed a Lyft driver in Garland, then drove the car over to a nearby police station and started shooting at the people inside. The alleged gunman, later identified as Imran Ali Rasheed, died after police gunned him down.

The next day, an FBI official said that Rasheed “may have been inspired by a foreign terrorist organization to commit these crimes,” by which he meant “was inspired by rhetoric or propaganda by foreign terrorist organizations.”

Why the FBI got involved at all was because Rasheed apparently left a note in the dead Lyft driver’s car, which prompted local police to reach out to the Bureau. 

What, we wonder, could have “inspired” Rasheed to go on a killing spree? Could it be that the humiliating defeat of the U.S. at the hands of the fanatical Taliban has energized Islamic radicals around the world, including in Texas?

The Economist helps answer that question. In the wake of Biden’s desperate evacuation and the loss of 13 Americans to terrorist bombs in Kabul, it notes:

In Yemen, they set off fireworks; in Somalia, they handed out sweets; in Syria, they praised the Taliban for providing a ‘living example’ of how to ‘bring down a criminal regime’ through jihad. Around the world, jihadists were elated by the fall of Kabul. Through willpower, patience, and cunning, a low-budget band of holy warriors has vanquished America and taken charge of a medium-size country. To Muslims who yearn to expel infidels and overthrow secular states, it was evidence that God approves. The ripple effects could be felt far and wide.

Far and wide indeed.

Switzerland’s Federal Intelligence Service is now warning about potential terrorist attacks on coronavirus vaccination centers, transport, and manufacturing facilities.

In the U.S., federal officials are currently on “high alert” for threats to the homeland, not just because some of the Afghan citizens we spirited away in our frenzied exit could be terrorists trying to get into the United States, and not just because Biden’s wide-open southern border could be a terrorist highway.

As CNN reports, another security threat is “people already in the U.S., who may be inspired by narratives associated with al-Qaeda, ISIS or other foreign terrorist groups,” and “will view the events in Afghanistan as an opportunity to engage in violence here at home.”

The Heritage Foundation’s national security expert James Carafano explains that, while Biden is busy casting his political opponents as dangerous terrorists, “the Taliban’s roughing-up of Biden will be a clarion call for transnational terrorism worldwide to get back in the game and go after the West. Small wonder that our European allies are outraged.” 

As we pointed out in this space on Monday, that clarion call is exactly what happened when President Barack Obama’s inept dealings in the Middle East – which included a withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq – helped spawn ISIS. It then swiftly (and, for Obama at least, unexpectedly) seized huge swaths of land in Syria and Iraq, and went on a murderous rampage.

Here’s how National Review described the impact in 2014: “The Obama administration is the main reason for the growth of the Islamic State (or ISIS) – and with it, for the current crisis in Iraq, and for a greatly increased danger of terrorism in Europe and America.”

And, indeed, Islamic terrorist activity spiked around the world – with the number of deadly attacks going from four in 2013 to 106 in 2015.

Do we need to mention the fact that Biden was vice president at the time?Today, Biden seems clueless about this risk.

But if the shooting death in Texas was inspired by the Taliban’s and ISIS-K’s victories, it won’t be the last. In addition to being responsible for the deaths of Americans in Kabul, and the fate of Americans now stranded in Afghanistan, Biden should be held responsible for any increase in Islamic terrorist activity, here and abroad.

Fact-Checked: Gavin Newsom Shouldn’t Have Dared Us

In an interview performance that has been described as “unhinged,” “odd,” “testy,” and “angry,” Gov. Gavin Newsom claimed Texas ​​middle-class families “pay more taxes than middle-class families in California.”

“Look that up,” he said in a virtual meeting with editorial and opinion writers from the McClatchy chain’s California newspapers. “That’s a fact”

But we didn’t have to look it up. We already knew he was wrong. Having just completed a policy brief outlining the exodus of businesses and residents from the state, we were familiar with the heavy tax burden that is laid on all Californians.

Here are the comparisons:

• The rates in the middle of California’s 10 personal income tax brackets are 8% (starting at $92,788 in annual adjusted income for married couples filing jointly) and 9.3% (starting at $117,268 in annual income), says the Tax Foundation. The latter is higher than the top rate in most other states, yet it ensnares more than a few families in California who are considered middle class. Texas has no income tax.

• Fuel taxes, hardest on lower- and middle-income Americans, are punitive in California, where the combined state taxes on gasoline are 67 cents per gallon. That’s more than three times the levy (20 cents per gallon) in Texas.

• Vehicle registrations are $51.75 per vehicle in Texas. In California, the fees are several hundred dollars for a modest car a middle-class family would drive.

• The lower and middle classes are also disproportionately impacted by sales taxes, since they take a larger share of their incomes compared to the wealthy. Here, there’s little difference between the two states. The Tax Foundation figures the combined state and average local sales taxes in California are 8.68%, ninth highest in the nation. Texas is 14th at 8.19%.
• It’s true that property taxes are higher in Texas. Thanks to California’s Proposition 13, the state ranks no worse than 20th. The effective rate is about 1%, when other fees and taxes are figured in. Texas rate is about twice that – 1.9%. But any advantage to Californians is negated by the state’s housing crisis. The median-price home in California was $811,170 in July, according to the California Realtors Association, while the Texas Quarterly Housing Report reports the median-price home there is $300,490.
• Occupational licensing regulations, which impose “unnecessary obstacles along the pathway that families have traditionally used to obtain a middle-class lifestyle,” are in effect a tax. The average fee in California, says the Institute for Justice, is $486, a little less than half of what is required in Texas, $253. The Lone Star state also licenses fewer occupations (37) than does California (76), though the gap could be far greater since the Golden State, whose “tangle” of licensing laws is virtually impenetrable, admits it “has no way of knowing how many occupations it licenses.”
• A host of other fees and taxes that choke California’s middle class include cell phone charges (higher than in Texas), which have increased sharply since 2014, tire fees, even mattress recycling fees.

One would be tempted to think that for all the taxes Californians pay, they would get a fair return. They don’t. Personal finance web site WalletHub has ranked the states on their taxpayer returns on investment and only Hawaii keeps California out of the bottom spot. Texas? In the top 10 at No. 7.

As tough as life is for California’s middle class, it’s likely to become even more unbearable. Newsom failed to mention that “this damn state” he loves so much is constantly looking for ways to raise taxes.

“It’s income tax time across America, but in the California Legislature it is always tax time,” Los Angeles Times columnist George Skelton, never confused as an advocate of small government, wrote in May. “Some Democrats never stop trying to raise taxes.”

One day later, Robert Gutierrez, president and CEO of the California Taxpayers Association, and Allan Zaremberg, retiring California Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, pointed out that proposed tax hikes are neither new nor rare in California. In every session, lawmakers “introduce myriad bills aimed at increasing taxes and fees on individuals, businesses and consumer products.” 

Newsom would have fared better had he moved on to another topic during the interview. Instead, apparently desperate to save himself, he blurted out a claim that’s easily debunked. The pressure of the recall campaign must be getting to him.

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar possibly committed a felony by failing to report income she may have received from her 2020 book deal in her required financial disclosure forms, a watchdog group alleged in a complaint filed Tuesday.

Members of the House are required to disclose sources of income above $200 in their financial disclosures, but Omar’s filings contain no mention of her book deal, which was reportedly valued at up to $250,000 in January 2019.

“Representative Omar’s apparent disclosure omissions and misreporting violate House ethics rules, the Ethics in Government act, and possibly 18 U.S.C. 1001, a felony with penalties up to five years in prison for making false statements in a matter before the legislative branch,” the National Legal and Policy Center wrote in a complaint to the Office of Congressional Ethics.

There's That Impeachable Call: Biden Pressured Ghani to Create "Perception" That They Were Beating Taliban

Joe Biden was telling America in July that the Taliban weren’t going to take over Afghanistan, that no one could have known that was going to happen. He maintains that no one told him differently, a claim we’ve already shown was a lie as he received a cable in June from officials in the State Department indicating that there was a likelihood that the Taliban would take over quickly once the U.S. pulled out at the end of August.

But it turns out that Biden was playing even more games behind the scenes, and something different was going on than what he was telling Americans to our faces.

According to a transcript of a July 23rd call that Biden had with former Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani that has been obtained by Reuters, Biden tried to pressure Ghani to change the “perception” of what was going on – which was that the Taliban was quickly taking over large swaths of the country and had by July taken much of the country. So he had cause to know that things weren’t as rosy as he was saying in July to the American people. Biden wanted Ghani to change that perception and suggest that wasn’t the case “whether it is true or not,” he allegedly told Ghani.

At the time of the call, the Taliban controlled about half of Afghanistan’s district centers. Biden urged Ghani to hold a press conference with other prominent Afghan leaders to outline a new military strategy, which he argued would “change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think,” Reuters reported.

“We are going to continue to fight hard, diplomatically, politically, economically, to make sure your government not only survives, but is sustained and grows,” Biden said.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also urged Ghani to take a similar position.

“The perception in the United States, in Europe and the media sort of thing is a narrative of Taliban momentum, and a narrative of Taliban victory,” Milley reportedly said. “And we need to collectively demonstrate and try to turn that perception, that narrative around.”

This is incredibly troubling especially in light of President Donald Trump being impeached over a perfect phone call in regard to Ukraine. Here you have Biden literally trying to hoodwink the public as to the real facts on the ground and try to pressure Ghani to throw out false information. Then Biden wonders why people didn’t leave? And he blames them for not leaving after he did this?

Couple this with the story I did earlier on Biden waiving briefing Congress on the actual facts of the terrorist problem and the weakness of the Afghan army. So he’s telling the Afghans to put out a false story while stiff-arming Congress as to the real facts.

That combined to make the perfect storm for the debacle.

The White House is now refusing comment, and it’s no wonder because they deserve to get ripped apart over it. This is the phone call, instead of the one between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, that should lead to impeachment.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is set to host a "Welcome BBQ" that is reportedly only intended for students of color, The College Fix reports.

The move comes just weeks after officials were forced to remove a "racist" boulder from the campus. 

What are the details? 

The outlet obtained a flyer outlining the event, which is scheduled for Sept. 12.The "Welcome BBQ" flyer states that the free event is for "students of color," and is intended to welcome back students who are "self-identified people of color."

"All are welcome, intended for self-identify people of color," a portion of the flyer adds.

The university's Center for Cultural Enrichment is hosting the event. Its mission includes "embracing all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender expressions, religions, classes, abilities, or any other aspects of identity we hold."

In a Tuesday morning statement to the outlet, UW-Madison spokesperson Meredith McGlone said that there is "nothing unusual" about the way that the campus is advertising the event, despite it not showing up on the campus events calendar nor the University Housing events and activities page. The outlet noted that to the contrary, a "Latinx New Student Welcome" was posted online.

“Regarding event promotion … it is standard practice for Housing to use signs rather than online listings to promote events organized within the hall intended primarily for hall residents," she told the outlet. “The Latinx Student Welcome is not organized by Housing and is targeted to a broader audience, which is why it's promoted online."

In related UW-Madison news ... 

School officials removed a "racist" boulder from the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus earlier this month at the request of minority students who said that the massive boulder symbolized racism. 

According to the Associated Press, many students of color on the campus said that Chamberlin Rock — named after geologist and former university president Thomas Crowder Chamberlin — "represents a history of discrimination," as the boulder was previously referred to as a "derogatory name for black people in a Wisconsin State Journal story in 1925." 

"The derogatory term was commonly used in the 1920s to describe any large dark rock," the news agency noted. "University historians have not found any other time that the term was used, but they said the Ku Klux Klan was active on campus at that time, the Wisconsin State Journal reported." 

The rock was removed and placed on university-owned land near Wisconsin's Lake Kegonsa. 

One student told the outlet that she was glad to see the rock depart the campus. 

“This moment is about the students, past and present, that relentlessly advocated for the removal of this racist monument," the student said. “Now is a moment for all of us BIPOC students to breathe a sigh of relief, to be proud of our endurance, and to begin healing."

Another added, "It's not the rock's fault that it got that terrible and unfortunate nickname. But the fact that it's ... being moved shows that the world is getting a little better today."

The Taliban executed an Afghan folk singer just days after the terrorist group declared "music is forbidden in Islam," the New York Post reported, citing the singer's family.

The Post noted that Fawad Andarabi's family told the Associated Press that he was shot dead Friday when "enforcers returned to his home after earlier searching it and even drinking tea with him."
