A man protesting in front of a Republican congressman’s office was arrested after allegedly citing the Virginia shooting in a threat he made to a staffer.
Protesters were demonstrating outside the office of Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) when 59-year-old Mark Prichard made the threats.
“Staffers working at the office indicated one of the protesters had made comments referencing the shooting of Rep. Scalise, which prompted them to call the Sheriff’s Department as well as lock the office doors,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.
The communications director for Sen. Flake said that Prichard told him, “You know how liberals are going to solve the Republican problem? They are going to get better aim. That last guy tried, but he needed better aim. We will get better aim.”
Staffers closed the offices, locked the doors after the threat, and called the police.
The “last guy” he seemed to be referring to was James Hodgkinson, the shooter who tried to kill Republicans while they were practicing for their charity Congressional baseball game in Arlington, Virginia. Hodgkinson could have killed numerous Republican members of Congress and their staffers but was foiled by Capitol police and a locked gate that prevented his access to the field.
Mark Prichard was arrested for the threat.
Congressman Flake was one of the Republicans who was present at the baseball fieldduring the shooting.
A day after the terrible shooting, a message was posted similar to the threat from Prichard on Flake’s Facebook page: “Hey, Congressmen! Must be nice to have health insurance at a time like this. I hope the next guy has a better aim.”
