Trump dumps Obamath

Trump dumps Obamath

President Trump is ending Obamath at the EPA by challenging regulations that cost $7.4 billion to $9.6 billion annually, but provide only $4 million to $6 million annually in health benefits.

Naturally, liberals are upset because they just use the environment as an excuse to kneecap American industry and our economy.

Bloomberg News reported, "The Trump administration is proposing that limits on mercury pollution from power plants are too costly to justify and no longer 'appropriate and necessary,' a finding that could make it difficult to impose more stringent curbs in the future."

Got that?

His new policy changes nothing today, but it makes it harder to impose further restrictions.

Nevertheless, the headline said, "Mercury Limits on Coal Plants No Longer ‘Appropriate,’ EPA Says."

But the limits remain. At best the headline is misleading.

Similarly, NPR mislead its readers in its headline, "Trump EPA Says Mercury Limits On Coal Plants Too Costly, Not 'Necessary.'"

However, its Paragraph 6 said, "In 2015, a court ordered the EPA to take into account not just the benefits of the mercury rule but also its cost to industry. In its new proposal, the EPA estimates that cost at $7.4 billion to $9.6 billion annually and the benefits at just $4 million to $6 million a year."

Obama said it provided $80 billion in health benefits because other emissions are reduced when you limit mercury. He figured these indirect benefits stopped "11,000 premature deaths."

So the direct benefits are 1/20,000th of the "co-benefits" that Obama claimed.

Elizabeth Warren is more Indian than that.

Market Watch reported, "Overall, environmental groups say, federal and state efforts have cut mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants by 85% in roughly the last decade."

That's enough.
