Almost 100 protesters laid down on the road at the intersection of Bolinas and Broadway in downtown Fairfax for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time that George Floyd was held down by the neck by a Minneapolis police officer leading to his death. The protesters took park in an Anti-Racism rally in Fairfax, Calif. on June 28, 2020. Speakers asked to re-imagine police safety and reform police forces in their treatment of African Americans, indigenous populations, and people of color. More than 100 protesters took to the streets of Fairfax on Sunday in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
Demonstrators rallied and met in small groups, discussing police reform, racism and how to make the community more diverse, inclusive and equitable. Speakers included Joe McGarry, Naomi Schultz, Veronica Geretz and Chance Cutrano, and town Mayor Renee Goddard.
