Never forget how the intelligence community threatened a fair election with the letter from the 51.

JOHN BRENNAN REVISITS THE DIRTY 51

If you created a list of the worst people in public life during modern American history, John Brennan would be near the top. As CIA Director, the (allegedly) former Communist betrayed the American people to a greater degree than any other public employee I can think of.

On Thursday, Brennan participated in some sort of conference, during which he was questioned by a guy who was in the office of the Director of National Intelligence and was involved in the intelligence work surrounding purported “Russian influence” in the 2020 election. The questioner didn’t get far, as Brennan just kept saying “bullshit,” even though what the questioner said was correct. The crowd was on Brennan’s side, and the moderator moved on:

Afterward, the same guy cornered Brennan in a hallway and asked him specifically about the letter that Brennan, a ringleader among the Dirty 51, signed, alleging that the documents contained on Hunter Biden’s computer that revealed Joe Biden’s corruption, were Russian disinformation. Brennan had no defense, except to assert belligerently, but incoherently, that his letter said the laptop data were a “Russian influence operation” rather than “disinformation.” That is, as my law school professors used to say, a distinction without a difference:

So let’s take a walk down memory lane. What, exactly, did Brennan and the rest of the Dirty 51 say? Their “open letter” is here. Brennan and the others alleged that Hunter’s laptop wasn’t real, but rather was a Russian plant:

It is for all these reasons that we write to say that the arrival on the US political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.

In other words, Russian disinformation.

[O]ur experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.

If we are right, this is Russia trying to influence how Americans vote in this election, and we believe strongly that Americans need to be aware of this.

Actually, the Dirty 51 were perfectly well aware that the laptop was genuine–the FBI had had it for months–and it was they, not the Russians, who were “trying to influence how Americans vote in this election.”

The letter contains much more to the same effect:

Our view that the Russians are involved in the Hunter Biden email issue….

And, if the word “disinformation” is key, as opposed to “Russian influence operation,” they also said:

According to USA Today, “…federal authorities are investigating whether the material supplied to the New York Post by Rudy Giuliani…is part of a smoke bomb of disinformation pushed by Russia.”

Politico certainly got the point: they headlined: “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.” For Brennan to now rest his defense on the idea that the Dirty 51 never said it was disinformation, just a “Russian influence operation,” is pitiful. The Russians had nothing to do with it. Joe Biden was corrupt.

But there is one more important point. The Dirty 51 letter says this:

Such an operation would be consistent with Russian objectives, as outlined publicly and recently by the Intelligence Community, to create political chaos in the United States and to deepen political divisions here but also to undermine the candidacy of former Vice President Biden and thereby help the candidacy of President Trump.

Emphasis added. We know now, through reports and emails that have recently been declassified, that intelligence professionals in the CIA said that there was no evidence that Russia was trying to help Trump win. They were just trying to sow confusion (not, of course, through Hunter’s laptop, which they had nothing to do with). But John Brennanintervened in the process and pulled rank, insisting that the final intelligence community assessment state, without evidence and contrary to the objections of the intelligence professionals, that the Russians were trying to help Trump. That false claim found its way into the Dirty 51 letter, courtesy of John Brennan.

John Brennan is a detestable character–a liar, a political hack, a betrayer of the American people. I don’t know whether he has committed a crime on which the statute of limitations has not run, but if he has, I hope he goes to a federal penitentiary.
