“The senator defended taking the portraits down, citing the rules and regulations of the State Capitol.”

Democrat Nebraska State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh was recently captured on camera removing images from a wall in the state capitol. The pictures were images of America’s founders and were part of an exhibit put up by Prager University.

Maybe it’s just me, but the first thing I thought of was leftists removing posters of missing Israelis after the October 7th attacks. People on the left seem to think this type of behavior is completely justified.

Breitbart News reports:

Nebraska State Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh Tears Down PragerU Historical Exhibit from State Capitol Walls

Nebraska State Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh (D) was caught on camera tearing down a PragerU historical exhibit from the walls at the state capitol.

After receiving backlash on social media, the Democrat state senator told a local news outlet that she didn’t know what she was doing, insisting that she just saw material on the walls outside her office and tore it down, having no idea what the signage represented.

The conservative organization shared video footage of Sen. Cavanaugh ripping down its Founders Museum exhibit at Nebraska’s state capitol on Wednesday.

“Why would an elected official take a tribute to American history off the wall of the capitol?” PragerU asked in a follow-up X post, sharing images from its exhibit, which included writer Phillis Wheatley, the first African-American author of a published book of poetry.

The conservative organization’s Founders Museum exhibit, in partnership with the White House, celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States and features portraits of Founding Fathers, among other historical figures, as well as key events in the American Revolution.

See below:

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen called her behavior ‘shameful and selfish.’

Cavanaugh responded to an inquiry from KETV News, claiming she was just enforcing Capitol rules about images on the walls:

Cavanaugh believes the governor’s tweet is a distraction from the real issues Nebraska faces. She told KETV she is a stickler for the rules, and those rules do not allow items to be displayed on walls outside of senators’ offices…

The senator defended taking the portraits down, citing the rules and regulations of the State Capitol. Rule 4.07 states that displays are limited to the first-floor rotunda and that no leafleting is allowed within the State Capitol or on Capitol grounds.

Democrats is exactly the word like you wrote. Not ‘leftists’, Democrats. We are watching the enemy among us and they aren’t a neat package called ‘leftist’. This is the Riot Industrial Complex operating right in front of us. Fighting the Federal government…is that the ghost of Jefferson Davis I hear cheering in disbelief?

Karen doing Karen things. It’s obvious demonrats hate America and its place
In history.

Yeah because it is Karen’s job to enforce the rules like this. You know it is probably a union worker’s job that she preempted to do the work herself. Not a good look Karen.

She had a smug grin on her face, as was removing the items. It was very similar to the smug grin worn by Renee Good before she pressed the accelerator.

Another day, another dreadful and nutty AWFL running amok.

Everybody misspells Dimocrat. “I”, not “E”.
.

The other video speaks 1,000 words.

Couple of questions. First when did it become her job to enforce building rules and/or decide what action to take if a rule was breached?

Second, since she took someone else’s property into her possession without permission I believe that is called theft and she should be referred for prosecution.

The whole defense that she was only enforcing “the rules” when she destroyed exhibition pictures is nonsense – 1st off her job isn’t building maintenance and clean up – at her job level you call to have other people “enforce the rules”.

2nd these didn’t look like unauthorized pics or posters would – the were professionally printed and displayed. Like an authorized display would be. So if she vandalized them herself, it was most likely because she didn’t believe they would be taken down if she went thru channels.

Lastly – I kinda doubt she went all HOA Karen on them because they were “against the rules” – I suspect she went Full Vandal because either the sponsor (Praeger U) or the subject matter (Celebrate 250 years of the USA existing) offended her.

Nah, let’s take her at her word about ‘being a stickler for the rules’ and taking matters into her own hands to enforce the ‘rules’. When a dozen dudes show up to her office with baseball bats I don’t wanna hear any whining about reliance on proper authorities or procedures. She wouldn’t want anyone to interfere or she’d miss an opportunity to personally ‘enforce the rules’. After all, ‘she’s a stickler’ and has already demonstrated she’s comfortable taking matters into her own hands. I’m sure she’ll be able to handle it and if not well maybe she’ll profit from the experience.

The senator defended taking the portraits down, citing the rules and regulations of the State Capitol. Rule 4.07 states that displays are limited to the first-floor rotunda and that no leafleting is allowed within the State Capitol or on Capitol grounds.

And here is what the actual rule/regulation says:

004.07 Information Booths, Displays and Public Notices – Information booths and/or displays may be authorized for a limited period of time. The State of
Nebraska assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to display materials. In most instances, displays will be limited to the First Floor Rotunda for a one-week
period of time
. Public notices, bulletins and newsprint may be posted in the State Capitol using the space set aside for such activity. No leafleting is allowed within the State Capitol or Grounds, except at or beyond the public sidewalks.

So Cavanaugh was almost correct in her statement. But not completely as apparently there can be instances where displays can be placed outside the First Floor Rotunda of the capitol building.

And apparently she didn’t check with the relevant authority who would have told her that the displays was granted permission to be placed where it was before she took it upon herself to rip the display down.

“Why would an elected official take a tribute to American history off the wall of the capitol?” Ask Trump about his actions and renaming things to his name. e.g. Kennedy Center. posted by bob
