ALL THE DEMS ARE RADICAL

ALL THE DEMS ARE RADICAL

The press likes to pretend that there are moderate or mainstream Democrats on one hand, and progressive or even socialist Democrats on the other. And the Democrats themselves often abet reporters in perpetrating this fantasy. The reality is otherwise: all the Democrats are radical.

Take Kamala Harris. As the Democrats’ most recent presidential nominee, she is by definition in the mainstream of her party. And she is a left-wing extremist:

Former Vice President Kamala Harris called for institutional changes to the Supreme Court and the Electoral College during an interview Tuesday, calling for more justices on the highest court in the nation.

“The work that we can do about winning back the House and the Senate is going to be on a number of things. For example, I believe that we need to expand the Supreme Court. We need more justices on the Supreme Court so that we can have a court that actually reinforces the spirit and principles behind the Constitution of the United States,” Harris told podcast host Keke Palmer….

The Democrats absolutely intend to pack the Court with left-wing justices along the lines of Ketanji Brown Jackson–political activists, not judges. If they take the House and the Senate in November, as they very well may, court packing will be on the agenda. It won’t become law, of course, as long as we have a Republican president. But we could well have a Democrat in the White House in 2029, as voters likely will be looking for a change after four years of Trump.

“I believe that we should be pushing for what is possible around changing the Electoral College. Right?”

I havd no idea what this means. The Electoral College, obviously, is part of Article II, so it can’t be changed without a constitutional amendment. Maybe she is thinking of the Compact of the States, an end-around that would de facto amend the Constitution via an interstate compact. The luster is off the Compact after Trump got more votes than Harris in 2024, but the Democrats could still dust it off.

“It’s about, the popular vote has to matter, right? You know, all the things that make people feel, like, overwhelmed, and does their vote matter?”

Democrats think their votes don’t matter unless their candidates win. The popular vote does matter, of course; it is how you carry a state. Harris evidently is talking about the aggregate popular vote that is a journalistic construct and has no legal significance.

Next:

We have, you know, listen, if the folks there want it, we should be pushing for statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C., right?”

At the first opportunity, Democrats will admit more states to the Union. And, unlike what was done with Alaska and Hawaii, they will all be reliably blue, like Puerto Rico and D.C. Again, only the President stands in their way if they prevail in the midterms.

And finally:

“These are some of the things that are structural that we need to do, but we need to reestablish affordable child care,” Harris added.

Of course Harris has no concept of how to make child care more affordable–by relaxing regulations on the number of kids who can be cared for per caregiver, for example. What she has in mind is subsidizing child care, which, if nothing is done to remove barriers to supply, will merely drive up prices. That is the most elementary economics, of which Harris and her fellow Democrats are entirely ignorant.

There is no such thing as a moderate Democrat.
