Open Season on Police as St. Louis Cop Killed and 2 Chicago Officers Wounded

A 19-year-old man, Jeffon Williams, was arrested and is facing several charges for shooting and wounding two Chicago police officers during a traffic stop.

Criminal Court Judge John F. Lyke Jr. said Williams showed “utter disregard for any person, any human being.” He set bail at $10 million, but Williams will not be released because he violated the terms of previous bonds.

And in St. Louis, a 29-year-old officer, Tamarris Bohannon, was murdered and another was wounded after responding to a shooting call. Details are still emerging, but it appears the gunman set a trap for the officers. The suspect, 43-year-old Thomas Kinworthy, was wanted for sexual assault in Florida. He entered a home and then barricaded himself inside and shot at officers from a second-story window.

Bohannon was the eighth St. Louis police officer shot since June.

The owner of the house, Steve Haag, had a message for Black Lives Matter: “Those who want to defund the police need to rethink that, they stand between us and this stuff,” Steve Haag said. “We are so grateful and thankful.”

Chicago’s top cop, Supt. David Brown, was bitter about the rising tide of violence engulfing the city’s police.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said there have now been 10 CPD officers shot so far this year, and 41 others shot at.

“I think 51 officers being shot at or shot in one year, I think that quadruples any previous year in Chicago’s history. I think there’s more than a suggestion that people are seeking to do harm to cops,” he said Monday morning.

Police said when they asked Williams for a statement, he said, “(Expletive) that officer, I hope he dies.” He was taken to the hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

That two officers were shot is of minor importance to the mob. Apparently, the same kinds of rumors about the shooting that circulated on social media earlier in August that led to a night of organized looting began to percolate and both Mayor Lightfoot and Supt. Brown sought to squelch the rumors before they gained traction.

In a rare move for the city early Sunday, both Supt. Brown and Mayor Lightfoot held a news conference before the sun was even up – just two hours after the shooting happened. The move was just deliberate.

“We have already seen the consequences of misinformation. Just weeks ago, false social media posts about a 15-year-old boy shot by police – while not true – spread like wildfire online. That was linked to the night of unrest and looting that followed early on Monday, Aug. 10.”

Around the country, police officers are walking around with bullseyes on their backs. In addition to shootings in St. Louis and Chicago, 5 officers were injured in a riot in Washington, D.C., two officers were wounded in a shootout with a murder suspect in Daytona Beach, Fla., and officers were injured in Dallas, Oakland, and Middletown, New York — all of these shootings and assaults occurred over the weekend.

Black Lives Matter has ginned up so much fear and outrage against the police — most of it false and defamatory — that there are more and more officers going to work every morning wondering if they’ll make it home safely that night.

Is it any wonder so many are filing for retirement?

They're getting what they asked for

A video that splices together clips of prominent Democrats and progressives openly calling for political unrest is now trending online as the nation continues to be gripped by violence and riots in the streets.

The video, produced by Caldron Pool, has garnered 2.5 million views since being posted to Twitter on Sunday.

In its original post, the Caldron Pool account asks, "how did you think it would end?" insinuating that progressives' calls for violence have indeed given rise to the violence now playing out in communities across the country such as Portland, Oregon; Kenosha, Wisconsin; and Chicago. 

BlazeTV host Elijah Schaffer — who has reported on much of the violence firsthand and has even had a gun pointed in his face as a result — tweeted out the video, calling it "the most important video of 2020."

Fellow BlazeTV host Steven Crowder suggested that the video be immediately turned into an ad for President Donald Trump's re-election campaign.

What are the details?

"I just don't know why there aren't uprisings all over the country," Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) says as the video opens, adding, "Maybe there will be."

The video then cuts to clips from two separate MSNBC newscasts where one contributors says, "People need to start taking to the streets" in opposition to Trump and then progressive Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) says, "There needs to be unrest in the streets."

After that, CNN host Chris Cuomo is shown saying, "Show me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful," against a backdrop of news about widespread looting and vandalism in New York City.

Elsewhere in the video, liberal reporters, Hollywood celebrities, and politicians — including Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden — can be heard calling for violence against the president and antagonizing his supporters.

"If we were in high school, I'd take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him," Biden said about Trump in 2018.

Why does it matter?

Many Americans have become increasingly frustrated as protests against racial injustice and police brutality have devolved into violent riots over the last several months, seemingly with little or no opposition from Democratic leaders.

Democratic officials in many cities where violent riots have taken place have often acquiesced to demands to cut police budgets even as lawlessness runs rampant.

In response, President Trump has called out the violence and has made law and order a major theme of his re-election campaign, suggesting that if Democrats have their way, the violence will only continue and increase.

"Make no mistake, if you give power to Joe Biden, the radical left will defund police departments all across America," Trump said in his speech at the Republican National Convention last week. "They will pass federal legislation to reduce law enforcement nationwide. They will make every city look like Democrat-run Portland, Oregon."

A 23-year-old Wisconsin man carrying a flamethrower, smoke grenades and fireworks during a Saturday night demonstration in Green Bay 'dropped into the fetal position and began crying' after he was chased down by police.

Matthew Banta of Neenah, WI - who is "known to be a violent Antifa member who incites violence in otherwise relatively peaceful protests," was one of four individuals walking towards a protest with baseball bats, according to ABC2.

Green Bay police say they were called for “a whole bunch of white people with sticks, baseball bats and helmets headed... towards the police” on Walnut St. near Webster Ave.

A responding officer says he saw four individuals walking towards a protest with baseball bats. One man was wearing a metal helmet with goggles and military-style gear with multiple pouches, and was carrying an Antifa flag. When the officer pulled his squad car in front of the group, they ran away. The officer caught Banta, who was carrying the flag, and says Banta “dropped into the fetal position and began crying.” He accused the officer of lying on him; the officer replied nobody was on him. -ABC2White House COVID-19 Task Force Privately Warned States About Virus

Banta claims he wasn't planning to incite a riot (with his flamethrower, smoke grenade and fireworks).

The three other individuals Banta was with were caught trying to break into a house. When officers apprehended them, they dropped what they were carrying, with one of them telling the police that they were simply bringing items for self-defense.

Last month, Banta was charged in Waupaca County with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and four other charges for pointing a loaded gun at a police officer, and biting and kicking another.

The scene on Tuesday night was something I had only seen in photos of war-torn countries. Men and women stood with baseball bats, hand-guns, semi-automatic rifles, and shotguns in front of their businesses and homes.

Black Lives Matter protesters, many of whom participated in the March on Washington, shut down major highways across the nation's capital city Friday night. Videos taken of protesters showed them harassing motorists and police.

What do the videos show?

One disturbing video showed protesters surround a police vehicle and seemingly try and rip that police officer from the vehicle. The video shows protesters attempt to open the vehicle door as the officer inside fights back.

A loud "pop" is then heard, though it was not clear where the sound came from or what made the sound.

Another video showed protesters harass a motorist who had become obviously distressed by the protesters and their blocking of the roadway.

"Ha ha, he's scared as f***," one of the protesters mocked.

What's the background?

People from across the nation gathered in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday for the 57th March on Washington, commemorating the 1963 March on Washington during which Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famed "I Have A Dream" speech.

According to the Washington Post, hundreds of demonstrators stayed in the city after festivities for the March on Washington had ended. Protesters temporarily blocked several major roadways, including entrances and exits into the city.

One protester told the Post their goal was to "choke the city."

From the Post:

Most of the protesters at Ninth Street wore all black, and many wore goggles and helmets on their heads. One person carried a bat, and another man wore what appeared to be a bulletproof vest.

Blocking highways is a protest tactic regularly used by Black Lives Matter protesters. 

Benjamin Jealous, former president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told the Wall Street Journal that blocking highways is used by demonstrators "who feel like they have no other way to get their community and the world to stop and take notice of what's happened."

Unfortunately, though, blocking roadways can have deadly consequences.

In fact, just last month, a protester was struck and killed on a Seattle highway.

The mother of the woman who was targeted earlier this week by Black Lives Matter protesters has spoken about about her daughter's resolve in not raising her fist despite opposition. 

According to the Daily Mail, video of Lauren Victor facing off with rowdy Black Lives Matter protesters went viral earlier this week after she refused to put her fist in the air in support of the movement. 

What's a brief history here?

A horde of demonstrators converged on a Washington, D.C., restaurant this week, demanding outdoor patrons raise their fists in solidarity with the movement. 

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser condemned the move following the video's emergence, saying, "What I saw in those videos was highly inappropriate. It was likely against the law if they were on private property, but more importantly, I don't think it had anything to do with demands for social justice." 

Bowser added, "We would encourage any diner or restaurant to call the police immediately. I would venture to say that the vast majority of those experiences have been 100 percent positive. I also don't think that D.C. residents would be bullied out of living their everyday lives." 

What are the details? 

Merna Victor, 77, told the outlet that her 49-year-old daughter — an urban planner in Washington, D.C. — said she refused to be intimidated by protesters. 

"She is a supporter and has marched in support of Black Lives Matter on several occasions, but she wasn't going to be intimidated by them," Merna said. "She was sitting with a friend outside a cafe just around the corner from her home, drinking her tea, when this large crowd appeared with their fists in the air." 

The elderly woman continued, "They had been going from cafe to cafe trying to get people to join them and calling for everyone to raise a clenched fist." 

Merna said that her daughter calmly told demonstrators that she does, indeed, support the movement, but that she wouldn't be pressured to participate in their activities. 

Merna recalled that at least one female protester demanded of her daughter, "Are you a Christian?" 

"What did that have to do with anything?" Merna asked. "Lauren says she wasn't afraid at any point that they would harm her. It was only a couple in the crowd who were aggressively confronting her." 

"The easy thing for her to do would be to raise her first and it would be over," she added. "But she was a little taken aback by their anger and vehemence and would not be intimidated. It's one of those things that shouldn't have happened. She wishes the whole group had just passed her by." 

Anything else?

At the time, Lauren admitted, "I felt I was under attack." 

She later added that while she supports the movement, the raucous demands of the crowd "didn't feel right." 

"To have a crowd — with all that energy — demand that you do this thing," Lauren added. "On one level my best guess was no one was going to hurt me but those things turn on a dime."
