Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to Kwik Fit in Whetstone, north London, this morning after reports a man had a "noxious substance" thrown at him.
A supervisor in the shop told thisislocalLondon the distressed victim repeatedly said he had been attacked with acid and that he constantly washed his face until emergency services arrived.
Police said they understand the man was approached by two suspects who threw a "noxious substance" at him before stealing his mobile phone.

Video and pictures show the garage has been surrounded by police tape with surrounding roads also shut.
Binesh Karia told thisislocalLondon: “We poured water on his face and he kept saying ‘call an ambulance I have been attacked with acid.’
“We took him into the washroom area and stripped his top off and washed him down with water while police were on their way."
The supervisor added the man attempted to rinse his skin "before the acid settled".

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 10:30am on Friday to reports of a noxious substance being thrown at a man in High Road, N12.
"Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended and found a man, aged in his 40s, suffering from facial injuries.
"He has taken to a north London hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
"It is understood the victim was approached by two suspects who threw a noxious substance at him before stealing his mobile phone. They then made-off from the scene."
No arrests have been made.

On Tuesday, the young woman was left "screaming in pain" as bystanders poured 10 bottles of water over her face.
Eyewitnesses said the woman jumped off the bus and ran into a shopping centre begging for water.
