Breaking: Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s tech has been indicted on four counts
The scandal surrounding former DNC Chair and current Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and her former computer tech intensified when Imran Awan was indicted on four counts Thursday.
Conservatives and Republicans have been following the case closely and speculated on the odd details so far known.
Amran was arrested by the FBI and Capitol Police as he tried to flee the country via a flight at Dulles International Airport. Thursday he was indicted on four counts including bank fraud, and giving a false statement to authorities.
His wife, Hina Alvi, was also included in the indictment.
Awan was at the center of a criminal probe over breaches of security at the House of Representatives. Even though news of his allegedly illegal acts had been publicized months before his arrest, Schultz only fired him after he was caught, fueling speculation that there was more to the story.
Some members of the Democratic National Committee have distanced themselves from Wasserman Schultz. Progressive DNC member Nikki Barnes was especially outspoken in her criticism of the former DNC chair.
“This adds to Debbie being rebranded as the Democrats’ disastrous destruction,” Barnes said. “Those of us on the DNC know we have to rebrand ourselves and earn the people’s trust. And unfortunately Debbie’s name does not scream trust.”
“It screams power,” she continued. “It screams limited access. It screams WikiLeaks now. DNC lawsuit. It screams a lot of negative things to the public. That’s not how we want to rebrand ourselves.”
