Window-smashing spree on No. 7 line could force cuts to subway service

Villainous vandals have smashed so many windows on No. 7 trains over the last six months that the MTA may be forced to cut service on the line due to a glass shortage, said MTA sources with knowledge of the matter.

A video shared online Wednesday night shows a train at the Vernon Blvd.-Jackson Ave. station with its windows smashed up.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said crews found three cars with shattered glass around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. A total of 39 windows were smashed on the train, said a transit source.

They found another cracked window on a conductor’s cab on the No. 7 line’s Main St. terminal in Flushing, Queens just after 8 p.m. that day.The incidents were just the latest in months-long smashing spree that’s resulted in no arrests.

The problem may have worsened since then. One MTA source said crews have replaced at least 200 windows on No. 7 trains since the start of August.

MTA officials said crews found 32 different broken windows on trains that rolled into the No. 7 line’s terminals in midtown Manhattan and Flushing between May 1 and June 28. That was a 16-fold increase from the two broken windows crews found on the line during the same period last year — despite a drastic dip in ridership due to the coronavirus pandemic.

When subway windows break, workers pull the entire train from service for repairs. Officials said each window costs roughly $500 to replace.

One source said the MTA has exhausted its supply of spare windows used for train cars on the No. 7 line and the agency’s glass vendors are having trouble keeping up with the destruction.

NYPD sources said cops do not believe the windows smashed Wednesday were part of the larger trend of vandalism. The MTA has a policy in place for crews to send every report of a broken window to the police, said agency spokesman Tim Minton.

This time of year, drunk Mets and Yankees fans are usually the cause of most broken subway train windows, said a transit source.

“In the 1990s we would take the old Redbird trains and put them in service to Yankees games because the glass was really easy to replace,” said the source. “We would have a whole car with like 20 windows broken.”

With baseball stadiums operating without fans during this summer’s pandemic-shortened season, fan hooliganism has been ruled out as a cause for the recent vandalism.

Crews at rail yards sometimes install quarter-inch thick plexiglass windows to keep trains running. But those are a temporary solution, and fresh tempered glass is eventually needed for the windows.

Hillary let's her totalitarian Constitutionally illiterate persona come out. At heart Democrats are fascist.

Hillary Clinton has lashed out at the armed demonstrators who have protested at the Michigan state capitol building against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's (D) ongoing coronavirus lockdown, calling such protests "domestic terrorism" and signaling that they must be stopped.

What are the details?

On Friday, Clinton tweeted, "Armed men storming a legislature to disrupt its democratic proceedings is domestic terrorism. It cannot be tolerated."
The former Democratic presidential nominee's message included a link to a Newsweek story with the headline: "Michigan closes down capitol in face of death threats from armed protestors against Gov. Whitmer."
Several protests have been held at the state's capitol building since Gov. Whitmer imposed one of the most strict stay-at-home orders in the nation. Late last month, protestors—some of whom were armed—poured inside the building itself, demanding to enter the chambers of the House of Representatives as members considered whether or not to extend the lockdown at Whitmer's request.
The protestors were blocked from entering the House chambers by State Police troopers and House sergeants-at-arms, but the protest remained peaceful. Lawmakers allowed the shutdown order expire, but Whitmer extended it unilaterally, further angering those opposed to the economic shutdown imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hill reported that "one man is reportedly facing charges over death threats to Whitmer, and Newsweek reports there have been posts online calling to lynch her as well as suggestions to crowdfund for a hitman."
According to the Newsweek article shared by Clinton, "Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) have considered banning firearms from the Capitol building but are awaiting the six-member Michigan State Capitol Commission to figure out if they have the legal authority to do so."

Bernie's wet dream: "Before his death in November 2016, Fidel Castro’s net worth was estimated at $900 million."

It’s idiotic to believe Castro was good for the Cuban people or that socialism would be good for the U.S

We’re supposed to believe that it is a wonderful thing in Communist countries where the leaders care so much for their people. They teach them to read. They have free education and health care. Cubans have very strict gun control. Abortion is available on demand in Cuba, and in 2019 they raised the mandatory minimum wage. All things the Democrats running for President support. It looks like an ideal Democrat platform
After 60 years of Castro Brothers control, they have raised the minimum wage to $16 (per month, not per hour). The average wage will shoot up from $24 to $42 per month. Thank goodness Cuba doesn't have the problem with wealth and income inequality that the United States does because that would cause division and strife.
Higher education professors will now receive $56 to $68 per month, very similar to the fake Indian running for President, who wants to move towards socialism, who is worth millions and got paid $400,000 for the tough task of teaching one course. I wonder why the cost of education is so high in the U.S and why student debt is so high when Warren only got $400,000 plus benefits for such a tough schedule.
The Cuban journalists pushing government propaganda will go from an average salary of $15.50 per month to $50 per month, which is very competitive with the millions that our talking heads receive as they push the Democrat talking points. Actually, I am having trouble justifying $50 per month for Maddow, Joe & Mika, Acosta and Tapper. A copier and leaflets would be a much cheaper way to push the Democrat talking points.
We clearly need a millionaire with three houses who has fed off the public trough to lead our country in order to get rid of wealth and income inequality. We have to get to a place where all the wealthy people around DC get more of the money from the greedy people throughout the rest of the country. We need to pay their fair share.

We need leaders like Castro, who cared so much about the common folk. He was very smart and obviously a good investor and saver. Like the common man in Cuba, he only earned an estimated $150 million per year and was worth in excess of $900 million when he died. Thank goodness he cared so much, just like the Clintons, Obama, Pelosi, and others who have lined their pockets very successfully as they claimed they cared about the poor and middle class. There never will be enough for greedy politicians. There are no moderate Democrats running. They all want more power and money. It is they who strive for a much more powerful, dictatorial government.
There is only one reasonable choice for president, and it is the person who is trying to give the power and purse back to the people as fast as possible while most journalists, bureaucrats and other Democrats seek to destroy him and anyone surrounding him or supporting him.
There’s a widely used saying in Cuba that state workers pretend to work, and the government pretends to pay them.  Few people believe the announcement of minor wage increases on Friday will alter that relationship.
Under the plan announced by President Miguel Diaz Canel, the government will step up controls to keep consumer prices from rising both for products and services in the state and private sectors, noted the Communist Party’s Cubadebate website.
The new minimum monthly wage was set at 400 pesos (US $16.00), said the president.  He further noted that an average salary would go up from $24 a month to $42 a month.  Pensions below $20 will also get an undisclosed boost, he said.
The president noted that a top-level University Professor would now receive 1,700 pesos (US $68 a month and the lowest level university educator would receive the equivalent of $56 dollars a month.
He added that government journalists, whose basic salary was only $15.50 a month, will now receive in the neighborhood of $50 a month.
Throughout 2019, Cuba has been suffering growing shortages for many basic products due to slumping national production and a lack of money in the government coffers for imports. Diaz Canel and the Council of Ministers hope the wage hike will stimulate the nation’s economy “at a time of increased hostility from the United States against Cuba.”
One estimate suggests he had an annual income of $150 million, allowing Fidel Castro’s net worth to grow over the course of his adult life. Plus, he likely had a range of other assets, like vehicles, boats, and valuables, which are part of the total.
Before his death in November 2016, Fidel Castro’s net worth was estimated at $900 million. However, as certain information about the infamous Cuban leader is hard to come by, it could have been higher.

Gridlock at LaGuardia forces travelers to walk to terminals

LaGuardia Airport’s roads filled to capacity on Thursday, with travelers reporting that they were forced to hop out of cars and buses and walk to catch their flights.
Video posted to Twitter by user @DCarrington01 showed travelers of all ages lugging their bags through snarled traffic.
“People are really hopping out the whips,” the person taking the video says.
Port Authority officials attributed the congestion both to ongoing construction at the airport and yesterday’s severe weather, which caused 300-plus flight cancellations at LaGuardia alone.
“We’re at the peak of construction and the peak of summer travel,” said agency spokesperson Alana Calmi.

“We’re hoping that [the traffic] will subside in the next couple of hours,” she added.
As of 6:20 p.m, Thursday was the second-busiest in the airport’s 80 year history — and on track to reach number one, Calmi said.
Twitter was awash with reports from frustrated travelers stuck waiting at the airport’s runways, terminals and parking lots.
“Disaster commute to #LGA,” wrote user @ReelMaggie. “Plane @SouthwestAir boarding in 30 minutes and in gridlock traffic less than one mile from terminal!”
