Life in Wuhan returns to normal as the rest of the world battles COVID

Wuhan, the Chinese industrial city where the coronavirus was first detected, has largely returned to normal as the rest of the world battles the pandemic.

Residents in the city of 11 million were jogging and practicing tai chi in a park, many of them without face shields, last week. 

Wuhan accounted for most of China’s 4,635 deaths, but has been free of outbreaks since lockdown was lifted in April, according to the Associated Press.

China announced another 107 coronavirus cases, bringing its total infections to nearly 89,000 since the beginning of the pandemic. More than two million people around the world have died from COVID-19, according to the latest statistics compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

After protracted negotiations, China gave permission last week for the World Health Organization to send a team of international experts to begin investigations of the origins of the virus. A group of experts linked to WHO had criticized China for not moving quickly enough to deal with the pandemic.
