‘Ridiculous’! 125 House Dems – and one Republican – vote in favor of bill to lower voting age to 16
On Thursday over 50 percent of House Democrats voted in favor of a widely panned measure to lower the voting age for all federal elections from 18 to 16.
Introduced by freshman congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and backed by the likes of anti-Semitic, Muslim freshman congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, among others in the radical freshmen class, the measure failed to pass only because of opposition from most Republicans and 108 Democrats.
Meanwhile, a whopping 125 Democrats and one Republican, Texas Congressman Michael C. Burgess, voted in favor of the measure. It’s unclear why Burgess voted “aye.”
What’s clear is that the Democrat Party is no longer the party of science. Some would argue it never was. According to science, the human brain doesn’t stop developing until the age of 25. Ergo, someone who believes in science might reasonably try to argue that the voting age should be raised to 25. What someone who genuinely believes in science wouldn’t do is argue that it should be lowered to 16. Yet that’s exactly what a majority of Democrats seek.
“By lowering the voting age from eighteen to sixteen years of age, my amendment would allow young people to have a say in our federal elections, to help shape and inform the policies that will set the course for the future,” Pressley said as she announced her measure on the House floor Thursday.
“From gun violence, to immigration reform, to climate change, to the future of work – our young people are organizing, mobilizing and calling us to action. They are at the forefront of social and legislative movements and have earned inclusion in our democracy.”
“Beginning at the age of sixteen, young people are contributing to both the labor force and their local economies by paying income taxes, and yet they are deprived of the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.”

Similar rhetoric was spouted by Democrat state legislators in Oregon who last month introduced a bill to lower the state’s voting age from 18 to 16.
“In Oregon, particularly our criminal justice laws affects 16-year-olds, our driving laws affect 16-year-olds. 16-year-olds can work … and pay taxes in Oregon,” state Sen. Shemia Fagan, the bill’s sponsor, announced on Feb. 18.
“And so 16 is really that sweet spot where we believe clearly they have the intelligence and the wherewithal to make informed decisions about who they would vote for. And also they’re at an age where they’re actually impacted by the decisions we all make.”
Yet as noted a the time, America’s laws affect everybody, including born and unborn babies. It’s unclear why Democrats, most of whom boast endorsements from Planned Parenthood, don’t likewise believe babies should also be allowed to vote, given as abortion laws certainly affect them.

What’s obvious is that this movement to lower the voting age makes no sense and certainly isn’t based on any rational, legitimate arguments. In fact, some say it’s wrong.
“It’s simply wrong. Almost all 16-year-olds I know I don’t believe should have the privilege or the authority to vote. They simply haven’t matured to the level that they can make those types of decisions,” Jim Lyons, a GOP official from Pressley’s home state of Massachusetts, said to The Boston Globe.
The state’s governor, Charlie Baker, agreed, saying, “I did raise three teenagers, and based on that I’d be pretty dubious about lowering it to 16.”
Mary Connaughton of the free-market think tank Pioneer Institute added that most 16-year and 17-year-olds “haven’t even been instructed in the basics of U.S. history, civics, or the facts of our democracy.”
